Invented 15 years ago, FBG Technology has proven itself in the Telecom industry in the form of fiber optical networks. Small in size and light in weight, FBG sensor has a long operating life, immune to radiation, RFI and EMI. It is passive, draws 0 power, can work in hostile environment like extreme temperature and pressure. It is also very reliable, ideal for remote and distributed sensing. Our VibroFibre ™ Sensor features low loss sensor head made with twin FBGs, its sensitivity can be optimized by cavity length.
VibroFibre ™ sensor is ideal for monitoring turbine generator stator end-windings and bearings, substation transformers, high voltage breakers and electrical motor brushes. Variation in vibration amplitude usually indicates delamination of the insulation layer from the winding, which leads to partial discharge and eventually destructive fire. QPS has successfully introduced a VibroFibre ™ sensor for stator windings.
Our VibroFibre ™ sensor bundle is supplied with an Integrated Signal Conditioner 800 ( ISC ), which houses the laser light source, detectors and signal conditioners. This sensor bundle is designed for clients operating their own data acquisition systems. Alternatively, we can supply a QPS HPS/TG Guard system, in which the software component handles the signal processing, sensor data management and display. The result is a sophisticated system which can be “trained” to interpret the data.
Based on HPS system, TG Guard is a semi-autonomous data acquisition system specially designed to monitor the turbine generator, such as gas turbines and steam turbines. TG Guard is designed to work with our Advanced VibroFibre ™ -- a special sensor capable of measuring and trending both vibration and local temperature rise of the Stator end windings. With a TG Guard system, one can monitor both Stator End Winding (SEW) vibration and Partial Discharge (PD).
The Tunable Laser System is yet another innovative new product from QPS Photronics. Based on the success of VibroFibre ä and HPS system platform, Tunable Laser System goes one step further to support multiple sensors per channel. Multiple sensors (up to 8 or 16, vibration and/or temperature) are embedded on the same optic fiber; we can find the right working point for each individual sensor by using the tunable laser to adjust the wavelength. This technology is ideally suited for the remote and distributed sensing of critical assets and equipment especially condition monitoring a cluster of rotating machines.
